| NEWS: Baxter Campus Internet Upgraded |
 |
As a result of a campus visit by Rich Quinn in May, almost every part of the Baxter Campus is now connected to the Internet. While the stone construction of some of the major buildings requires hard-wired connections, and some locations have a weak signal due to the terrain, most locations on campus have an adequate wireless Internet connection, including major assembly areas, the chapel, the dining hall, and the single and married student housing.
In fact, the wireless signal is so strong that many of our neighbors are able to "borrow" our signal to access the Internet, thus diminishing the on-campus capacity needed by our students.
The next step, which will be completed later this month, is to provide users an access code and password so that only authorized users can access the system. Rich Quinn and our on-campus technology administrator, Misael Castro, are completing the necessary arrangements. This improvement will also allow us to monitor which sites are being visited and to know who is accessing which sites. Visiting groups can have Internet access through passwords that expire once they are no longer needed.
According to Rich Quinn, the next essential step is to install site and SPAM filters which will further improve the system.
The Internet capacity significantly strengthens the work we share. At the Clinic, inventories and patient records are tracked digitally and can be more easily shared. At Baxter, the students have access to numerous additional resources, including language studies, biblical research tools, missions resources, ministry resources, and current news items concerning world events and the events in their home countries, all of which assist them in their studies and preparation for ministry and missions.
