September 22, 2009--Honduras Update
Miguel Angel called the U.S. just after noon today to report that all is well on campus, despite the activity in the streets in other parts of the city. The administration is taking extra security precautions. The continuing curfew is an inconvenience. Please remember Honduras, and especially the work at Baxter and the Clinic, in your prayers as we unite our hearts before the Father to pray for peace.

September 15, 2009--We're Back!!
After a brief break, we are back with plans for more regular blogs and updates on this page. We are in the process of deleting and reformatting some older pages and files to make space on our web server. (We hit our server space limit last month.) We have not completed the update process, but have succeeded in making enough space to resume adding current information.

August 14, 2009--President Makes Brief Fund-Raising/Speaking Trip to U.S.
Greetings to all from the U.S. I spoke at Waterview in Richardson, Texas on Wednesday August 12 and am now preaching a brief series at Kensett, a small town adjacent to Searcy, through Sunday.
We are looking forward to being with Bob and Jan Young and Bob and Ridglae Stephens in Honduras for the next two weeks. I am hopeful that we can develop a strategic agenda based on the strategic planning materials that have been assembled. I am developing my own strategic agenda concepts based on what I have gathered by talking to board members, Bob Young, Baxter administrators, teachers, students, etc. I look forward to working on a proposed agenda and spending time with two "old" college administrators.

August 5, 2009--Youth Encounter Cancelled
"With much sadness, the 2009 Youth Encounter at Baxter is officially cancelled, due to the political and economic situation in Honduras and the influences that have attacked Central America.
We ask your pardon, especially for those who have been preparing so long for this, and we encourage you to continue onward in the way of the Lord.
We love you much with the love of Christ. If you need more information, please contact us."

July 24--Campus Update
Conversations and emails with those on campus indicate that all continues normally, although campus residents are staying fairly close to campus. Please continue to pray for the situation in Honduras--for the safety of God's family and other residents of Honduras, and that the gospel might not be hindered.
July 21--Brief Note from Howard about campus life in the midst of the turmoil
Greetings: We are doing great in spite of the political turmoil. We hear about it, but we have stayed close to the campus and have had no trouble. We did keep the students on campus again this past weekend rather than sending them out on their regular weekend assignments.
July 19--Update from Calvin and Linda
Linda and I returned home last night from two weeks at Baxter. (We thoroughly enjoyed our classes. Steve White is to be congratulated for having recruited some very good students and teachers.) After something of an interesting arrival on July 4, we faced no other major problems ourselves during that time. Our early flight on Continental was cancelled yesterday, but we were put on the later flight without a problem. Of course, the political situation in Honduras continues to be quite unsettled and everyone is on pins and needles while awaiting a final outcome. I suspect there will be political unrest (hopefully not violence) at least until the elections are over, currently scheduled for the last Sunday in November. Negotiations might move that date closer. Until then, the economic situation in Honduras could get very difficult due to the pressures being put on by neighboring countries and the OAS, including the U.S. Also, many government employees, including teachers, are caught between a rock and a hard place, and are not functioning normally. We all need to be praying for a peaceful resolution to these problems.
Our second week at Baxter we were privileged to spend a good bit of time with Howard and Jane Norton. They are happy and excited about their new work. I was teaching a missions course and asked Howard to take the class two days (he does have a LITTLE experience at that). Not only did the students enjoy that, but it gave Howard a chance to be with the 3rd and 4th year students in the classroom. He also spoke in chapel on Friday in not perfect, but very understandable Spanish.
July 14--Weekend Evangelism Assignments Provide Baxter Students Hands-On Training
The weekend evangelism assignments for the third bimester of 2009 have begun. Baxter students are working with 18 congregations in various parts of Tegucigalpa and the surrounding area. You can review the assignments at this link: JULY-AUGUST 2009 WEEKEND EVANGELISM ASSIGNMENTS
Sunday afternoon, July 12--Notes from Linda Henry on Campus
The news that the curfew ends today is welcome and well received. Our students were able to go to their assignments around the area so all are being blessed. Prayers that it so continue, please. There is lingering dissatisfaction on all fronts, but the Lord is greater than these problems (i.e. the a.m. sermon!). Love and thanks to you each who faithfully hold up members and missionaries around our world....Things around town and around the country seem to have settled down, for now, and we've even left the Baxter campus to go with the Nortons to EAT! OK--and worship today, too! Wonderful preacher (yes, my husband) on a vital current topic.
July 10--Howard and Jane Arrive in Honduras Safely
The campus community is overjoyed that Howard and Jane returned to campus safely yesterday. This challenging time in the history of Honduras and Latin America accentuates the need for the work being done through the Clinic and the Institute. Howard said, “Those who are suffering most in this situation are the Honduran people. I hurt for them in the midst of uncertainty and suffering.”
Howard and Jane are almost settled into the apartment and have been very busy since their return to campus with numerous conversations, appointments, and activities. Howard writes, “We are enjoying being with Calvin and Linda. They are beloved and have done a good job while here.”
Anticipation is high for the future and what God will do to serve others through humble hearts, caring hands, and loving words. Please pray for the work at the Clinic and at Baxter. Pray for the employees and for the students. Pray for the churches and Christians all across Latin America and especially in Honduras during these days. Pray for the churches and Christians who help support these works in the midst of difficult economic times. Pray for the spread of the good news of Jesus through the incarnation of his presence—in providing medical services, benevolent care for the poor, and the Good News of the Gospel for all!
